The right central incisor was dark due to traumatic tooth injury earlier in life. These teeth have to have endodontic therapy and internal bleaching. Also note that the gums cover much of the natural tooth.

The teeth were whitened with internal and Zoom external bleaching, the color corrected and the gingival symmetry refined with the WaterLase dental laser. The crown lengthening laser procedure makes a major improvement in the beauty of a smile.

Ashley  had the laser surgery before beginning the whitening process. Laser gingival recontouring can be as simple as cuticle removal or more advanced as in bone recontouring with the dental WaterLase.

Once gingival healing was completed in about a month, the endodontic (root canal) procedure was completed and the internal bleaching done on the same day. Zoom external whitening was the final treatment needed for a gorgeous smile.

Note how the teeth now dominate the smile and are balanced in size with her lips and gums.  The result is a gorgeous, healthy looking smile.

In developing a dental treatment plan for our patients, it is important to always diagnose each segment of the smile, break it apart into its component parts and then figure out what needs to be improved to give each person their ideal smile.

We do this with a number of tools, including a smile chart, diagnostic photos, tooth color shade guides, diagnostic models of the teeth, radiographs (x-rays), smile analysis, K7 computerized mandibular scanning and detailed consultations with our patients about what they want to accomplish.

A smile should be the dominate feature of the face. Teeth should be the center of the smile, draped by perfectly symmetrical gums and framed by full lips.
