Jillian, Before Our
Internal Bleaching Treatment, Had A Dark Yellow Stain In Her Central
Incisor Tooth As A Result Of Root Canal Therapy Gone Haywire |
|
Jillian After her initial
treatment
which included an In-Office Internal Bleaching treatment and a "Walking
Bleach" for one week at home. |

|
The yellow color is most
likely a result of a medication used in a previous root canal treatment.
This is very uncommon but nevertheless a condition that needed to be
corrected. |
|
Now Jillian has a more normal,
natural smile once again. This therapy avoided the need for placing a
crown, veneer or bonding on the tooth for color correction. Her color
match was not yet ideal but much better than the yellow tooth. |

|
Varying colors distracted from
Jillian's smile before treatment. The lateral is dark, the central
yellow, the other central and lateral are normal in color. |
A more uniform color of
enamel was achieved as the second phase of treatment is completed. The
color will stabilize over a few more days and the hydration of the
treated teeth will cause them to become even more uniform. |

Mid Treatment |
|
The initial color
difference is dramatic for the central incisor. If you look closely, you
will also see that the right lateral incisor next to the yellow central
incisor is a bit dark...this was due to an abscess in the tooth. Root
canal therapy and internal bleaching were completed in the same
appointment for this tooth also. |
|
Notice that the color is
not yet 100% corrected after just one hour of treatment. This is the
indication for the second phase of internal bleaching, called the
"walking bleach" technique. Also notice that the strong bleaching agent
used in the treatment can temporarily whiten the gum around the tooth
being treated. |

After her color has stabilized,
Jillian had a slight bit of grey in the natural, untreated teeth while
the treated central incisor was whiter than the adjacent teeth. Jillian
wanted an even closer match to her ideal shade which was a whiter tooth
than her natural teeth. We recommended a single in-office treatment with
Zoom.

As you an see, the effect was
the perfect fit for her needs and what she wished for. The color (hue,
value and chroma) of the Zoom treated natural teeth and the
endodontically treated internally bleached front tooth are now identical
in every way. |
