Medical Clinic Morijo 2008: A Case Study

Cheney Davis, our Nurse Practitioner who works in the Emergency Room of Gwinnett Hospital and Medical Physician Jeannine Wills from California worked together on a severe leg laceration, suturing and bandaging it. This is what we do on mission.

Local anesthetic is injected into the area around the wound caused when the 15 year old boy fell and gashed his leg on a large, sharp rock. He was carried to our clinic from Morijo Primary School just as we arrived to set up our clinic our first day in Morijo.

Meticulous care is used to clean and debride the wound in the out door clinic area.

Jeannine and Cheney, after stabilizing the wound, decide to move him indoors for surgery.

With a surgical dressing setup from our supplies, Dr. Wills sets up the operating room with help from Sheila and Gerry.

Cheney and  Jeannine shared the wound care surgery and suturing as Sheila, Dollie and Dr. Williams assisted.

This Masai boy had gotten dirt and grime from the fall into his leg and it was carefully cleaned prior to suturing by our experienced health care practitioners.

Once the wound was cleaned, the margins were trimmed and readied for suturing.

Gerry and Sheila comfort and steady the boy as his leg is painstakingly sutured back together.

Dr. Jeannine and Cheney took turns suturing the internal and external segments.

Progress was steady and the job was carefully completed.

Luke Ellington watched carefully so he could do it himself one day in the future.

Placing the glue and butterfly bandages on the closed wound After the adhesive  strips are all placed, the gauze bandage is placed over the wound.

The wound wrapped and ready for the ace bandage. Patient and his grateful grandmother sitting outside the clinic after the KMO team had finished their good work.

The 10/40 Window is an area stretching from 10° to 40° north of the equator from West Africa to East Asia. Did you know that 90 percent of all unreached people groups live in this region of the world? The 10/40 Window is identified as having less than 2 percent of their populations as evangelical Christians.
